That might be a relief for Damon's rabid fan base, but the "Fab Five" from Bravo's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" will change his look a bit. Damon and four other Red Sox players were made over by the television show on Monday.
The show's "Fab Five" -- Thom Filicia, Jai Rodriguez, Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas and Kressley -- have converged on City of Palms for four days of taping of the season premiere episode that will air June 7.
Damon -- in addition to Doug Mirabelli, Tim Wakefield, Kevin Millar and Jason Varitek -- were the targets of the makeover. Everyone but the Boston captain was at a press event Monday, and they seemed like good sports.
"We're a loose bunch of guys," Damon said. "We have fun."
The television show pitched the idea to the Red Sox during the offseason. Boston brass recruited the five players to participate.
Sitting near the field Monday, Kressley screamed up to general manager Theo Epstein, watching from afar in a luxury box.
"Theo, how about Pink Sox instead of red?" Kressley said. "Pink is the new red."
Epstein screamed back that, after last year, red is lucky.
The Fab Five -- who each have an area of expertise on the show -- met with the players' wives before the makeover, scheduled for late Monday night in the press box at City of Palms Park. The press box received a bit of a makeover, too, with it looking like the television show's set.
The wives gave the Fab Five some ideas.
"Lots of beard alteration was proposed," Allen said.
Said Kressley: "Man-scaping."
Varitek actually played in Boston's game against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale on Monday afternoon. After playing his innings, the catcher flew from Fort Lauderdale to the airport in Fort Myers before hopping a helicopter that landed on a white 'X' in center field.
"We're here to help you," Rodriguez screamed from a bullhorn as the captain stepped off the helicopter.
As he landed, his four teammates walked out on a porch jetting from a luxury box. Wakefield and Damon were wearing white bathrobes, ready for their makeovers.
The challenge, the Fab Five said, is making over the ballplayers without compromising their masculinity or image. Damon, however, said he wouldn't change his Samson-like locks.

The television taping is for a good cause, too. The Fab Five will be in Fort Myers until Thursday. One facet of the show will include the Fab Five and Red Sox players raising money to repair a Charlotte County Little League stadium that was damaged by Hurricane Charley.
Monday, the Fab Five focused on the players.
"I love a team named after a fashion accessory," Kressley joked.
The Red Sox have had a busy few months. Since winning the World Series last year, no fewer than 20 books have been written about the team. Damon appeared on "MTV Cribs." Tuesday night, he joined Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore at City of Palms Park for an Entertainment Weekly photo shoot in conjunction with "Fever Pitch," a movie about a Red Sox fan due out April 8.
Vice president of baseball operations Charles Steinberg said that the additional attention the Red Sox have received is good for the game. It might be a tad distracting -- the team hopes not -- but Boston brass will stop these sorts of things once the season starts.
"It makes baseball seem even bigger," Steinberg said. "We'll take the next generation of fans if that's how we have to reach them."
