St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols has received more votes than any National Leaguer with 570,004 ballots, giving him a lead of more than 300,000 over NL Triple Crown threat Derrek Lee of the Chicago Cubs.
Other Cardinals who, if the balloting were to end today, would be in the starting lineup on July 12 at Comerica Park in Detroit are third baseman Scott Rolen and center fielder Jim Edmonds.
Rolen, with 404,004 votes, leads Chipper Jones of Atlanta by more than 100,000 votes. Edmonds is second in the outfield balloting behind Carlos Beltran of New York and ahead of Ken Griffey Jr. of Cincinnati.
Beltran is one of two Mets currently leading his position, along with catcher Mike Piazza. Piazza, an 11-time All-Star, was the NL starter last year in the 75th All-Star Game at Houston and the all-time leading vote getter among catchers.
The rest of the position leaders include Jeff Kent of the Dodgers at second base and Nomar Garciaparra of the Cubs at shortstop.
Griffey, who entered this year's campaign having received more All-Star votes than any player in history with 37,524,916, is bidding for a 13th All-Star appearance and trails only Cal Ripken Jr. (17) and Rod Carew (15).
Piazza, Pujols, Kent, Griffey and Rolen were voted onto the NL starting lineup last season, though Kent went as a member of the Houston Astros. Kent leads Houston's Craig Biggio by 118,839 (371,947 to 253,108) with Mark Grudzielanek of the Cardinals third at 188,254.
