Homers power Sox past Jays
Wilson, Stern go yard; DiNardo shines over two frames

Saturday, March 18 Blue Jays at the plate: Vernon Wells went 1-for-3 in his first game of the spring. Wells, who played for the Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, had a single, a stolen base and a run scored. Bengie Molina went 1-for-3 and had a two-run single. Shea Hillenbrand doubled and scored a run in going 1-for-2. Red Sox at the plate: Adam Stern finished 3-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle. Stern doubled in the second, hit a two-run homer in the fourth and singled in the sixth. Alex Cora went 1-for-4 in his first game back from the World Baseball Classic. Cora had a double and a run-scoring fielder's choice. J.T. Snow had a double and scored a run. Enrique Wilson hit his first home run of Spring Training with a 340-foot drive to left. Blue Jays on the mound: Starter A.J. Burnett left after one inning due to an arm injury. In his one-plus inning of work, Burnett allowed two runs on three hits and then had to come out of the game with an injured arm after his first pitch of the second inning. Gustavo Chacin made his first appearance of Spring Training and pitched two scoreless innings. Chacin threw 25 pitches and gave up two hits with two strikeouts. Reliever Scott Schoeneweis had his second tough outing in a row, giving up three runs on the homer to Stern and a solo shot by Wilson. Red Sox on the mound: Lenny DiNardo made his case for one of the long-relief spots with two innings of shutout ball. The lefty allowed two hits and struck out two on 39 pitches. Grapefruit League records: Toronto 6-13; Boston 5-11.
Up next: Toronto right-hander Josh Towers will take the mound when the Blue Jays travel to Bradenton, Fla., to play the Pirates at 1:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
