Tigers at the plate: Leadoff man Curtis Granderson led Detroit's offense with three hits, including a third-inning solo home run for his team-leading sixth homer of the spring. Chris Shelton and Marcus Thames hit RBI doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.

Rays at the plate: Joey Gathright had a bunt single and slapped two more hits, but he was kept off the scoreboard by a pickoff at third base and a fielder's-choice play at the plate. Jonny Gomes led the Rays' offense with a two-run double down the left-field line in the first inning as part of his two-hit afternoon. Nick Green added an RBI single.

Tigers on the mound: Nate Robertson battled with baserunners all day, yet he left with the lead after surrendering four runs on 10 hits in six innings. Chris Spurling yielded two unearned runs in the seventh, thanks in part to two errors and two wild pitches.

Rays on the mound: Mark Hendrickson worked a scoreless first trip through the Tigers' order before giving up five runs in his final tuneup of the spring. He lasted six innings before giving way to Doug Waechter for three scoreless innings.

Grapefruit League records: Tigers 17-15-1; Rays 13-15.

Up next: The Tigers and Rays close Spring Training against each other Saturday at 3:05 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field. Mike Maroth will start for Detroit, followed by Todd Jones, Jamie Walker and Bobby Seay. Casey Fossum is slated to start for Tampa Bay.
