Kent was 0-for-1 against Washington right-hander Shawn Hill, striking out swinging to lead off the second. Kent had made a nice running catch to nab a foul pop by Nick Johnson to end the first inning.
Oscar Robles came out in the on-deck circle to pinch-hit for Kent in the third, but Nomar Garciaparra grounded out for the final out. Robles then assumed Kent's position in the field.
With outfielder J.D. Drew unavailable to play the field because of a sore right shoulder, manager Grady Little was already shorthanded on the bench. Drew's injury left the Dodgers without a backup outfielder, and Kent's departure left only infielders Olmedo Saenz, Ramon Martinez and catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. on the bench.
