Hall of Famer Smith featured in week leading up to Father's Day
"This Week in Baseball" heads to San Diego this week, where the show catches a glimpse of life with the Padres on game day. Some Friars players were miked during batting practice at PETCO Park, and some, including second baseman Josh Barfield, were miked for a game. Mike Cameron wore a microphone during batting practice, and said he has a lot of fun when TWIB comes around. He thinks it's great for the fans to get an inside view of what game day is like. Once the game starts, however, he warned why it might be a good idea to take the mic off. "I can't wear the mic during the game. I get a bad mouth," Cameron admitted with a smile. Padres fans will also get the chance to share with TWIB why they love the Friars. This week's TWIB is the Father's Day edition, and Padres outfielder Brian Giles' dad will be honored. TWIB will also join in with Major League Baseball in the fight against prostate cancer.
Former Padres great Ozzie Smith, a spokesman for the Prostate Cancer Foundation's "Home Run Challenge" and the Gillette Prostate Cancer Challenge, will be featured. Each home run hit in the 60 selected games during the days leading up to Father's Day, June 7-18, will help raise money in the battle against prostate cancer.
Along with the feature on TWIB, Smith will also make a public service announcement about prostate cancer, which will air on ESPN on Father's Day."This Week in Baseball" airs each week on Saturday on FOX, and will be replayed throughout the week on Channel 4 San Diego, Comcast SportsNetChicago, Comcast SportsNet West, and the New England Sports Network.
