HOUSTON -- As expected, Chris Burke underwent successful surgery Thursday in Birmingham. Ala., to tighten the capsule in his left shoulder. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, with assistance from team medical director Dr. David Lintner.

Burke, whose shoulder popped out of its socket on three separate occassions beginning in September 2005, is expected to be fully recovered in time for Spring Training.

Burke, 26, hit .276 with a career-high nine home runs and 40 RBIs in 123 games for the Astros in 2006. He also hit 23 doubles while stealing 11 bases and scoring 58 runs.

He appeared in games at five different positions, including 69 games at second base and 38 in center field.
