Mets insert Floyd in starting lineup
Outfielder bats sixth with tender Achilles tendon
NEW YORK -- Cliff Floyd, aching left Achilles tendon and all, will be in the Mets' starting lineup tonight when they oppose the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
Floyd, who will start in left field and bat sixth in the lineup, was considered questionable for this series after aggravating the injury running the bases on Saturday night in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Dodgers.
But after undergoing and passing a rigorous workout to the club's satisfaction on Tuesday at Shea Stadium, the Mets elected to put him on the NLCS roster.
The rest of the Game 1 lineup: batting first, shortstop Jose Reyes; batting second, catcher Paul Lo Duca; batting third, center fielder Carlos Beltran; batting fourth, first baseman Carlos Delgado; batting fifth, third baseman David Wright; batting seventh, right fielder Shawn Green; batting eighth, second baseman Jose Valentin; and batting ninth and pitching, Tom Glavine.
