Cubs exit Cactus play on high note
Hoffpauir's three-run homer is difference in victory

Thursday, March 29 Diamondbacks at the plate: Miguel Montero hit a two-run double in the first and Matt Erickson doubled and scored on Rich Thompson's single in the second. Mark Reynolds tied the game at 4 with an RBI double in the fifth. Cubs at the plate: Micah Hoffpauir hit a three-run, tie-breaking homer with two outs in the seventh. In the second, Tyler Colvin hit an RBI single; and Matt Murton had two hits, including a RBI double in the third. The Cubs added two runs in the fourth, taking advantage of a throwing error by pitcher Doug Davis. Diamondbacks on the mound: Davis gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk over five innings while striking out five. Cubs on the mound: Starter Wade Miller, who won the fifth starter job, gave up three runs on three hits and one walk over three innings while striking out two. Cactus League records: Diamondbacks 18-11; Cubs 16-12-2. The game drew a record crowd of 12,917, topping the old mark of 12,903 set March 4 when the Cubs played host to the White Sox at HoHoKam Park. Up next: The Cubs head to Las Vegas where they'll play two games against the Mariners. Left-hander Ted Lilly is slated to start Friday while Jason Marquis will go Saturday.
