TWIB revisits Jackie Robinson Day
Thirty-minute show to air Saturday on FOX at 3 p.m. ET
This Week In Baseball will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the 2007 Dodgers and their quest for a seventh World Series title.
Saturday's show will focus on the Dodgers' current squad, built around fine pitching, strong defense and steady hitting, but it will also take viewers back to one of the most memorable nights in Dodger Stadium history -- last year's improbable victory over the Padres, in which the Dodgers hit four home runs in a row to tie the game in the 10th inning followed by a walk-off, two-run homer by Nomar Garciaparra in the 11th inning.
The four consecutive home runs tied a Major League record, and was the first such power binge since the Twins hit four in row against the Athletics in 1964.
Sticking to the Dodgers theme, the show will revisit last weekend's Jackie Robinson Day celebration at Dodger Stadium. Viewers will get an all-access pass behind the scenes of the ceremonies, which paid tribute to Robinson's Major League debut with the Dodgers 60 years ago.
"Marlon Anderson, wired for the Jackie Robinson Day celebration at Dodger Stadium, takes viewers through an intimate look at the festivities and reveals how honored he was to wear No. 42 for the day," said James Potocki, the show's lead producer. "Viewers will eavesdrop as he speaks with Joe Morgan, Mike Cameron, Jackie's daughter, Sharon Robinson, and teammates, as they all soak in a very special event. It's a fresh look at Jackie Robinson Day that viewers didn't see last Sunday."
Saturday's top countdown will feature the top five players who have worn the No. 42 regularly in their careers. Players like Mariano Rivera and Mo Vaughn will be a part of the countdown.
Ten years ago, Selig honored Robinson by announcing that no player, coach or manager would wear No. 42 again. A handful of players were grandfathered in by the Commissioner, including Rivera, who is the last active player to wear the number.
This week's Front Row Fan segment features actor Terrence Howard, who is currently starring in the film "Pride," and has starred in such films as "Hustle and Flow" and "Crash." In the segment, Howard, a Philadelphia native, gives his thoughts on Jackie Robinson.
TWIB will air on FOX at 3 p.m. ET, before the Red Sox-Yankees and the Cubs-Cardinals nationally televised games.
