SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds slugged his 744th career home run and continued his steady march toward Hank Aaron's record on Saturday afternoon in the Giants' 9-4 win over the Phillies.

The solo shot to center field to open the second inning came on the first pitch Bonds saw from Phillies right-hander Jon Lieber and tied the score. It was Bonds' fifth home run off Lieber and his 10th of the season.

"He touched that ball pretty good," starting pitcher Noah Lowry said.

Bonds was walked in his next three at-bats.

"I know, as a pitcher, it's tough to let the leadoff batter on base," Lowry said. "Whether he's hitting or walking, [Bonds is] always a tough out."

In Friday's game, Bonds was intentionally walked, and it resulted in a three-run go-ahead inning for the Giants.

Bonds now needs 11 homers to tie Aaron, but Saturday's blast did bring Bonds even with another Aaron record. The left fielder is now tied with Aaron and Babe Ruth on the all-time runs scored list, with 2,174. The home run also moved Bonds past Stan Musial for sole possession of fourth place on the all-time RBI list (1,952).

Bonds, who almost didn't play in the afternoon game following Friday's night game, has nine homers in his last 19 games. His last was a two-run shot off Colorado's Jeff Francis on Wednesday.

Bonds left AT&T Park on Saturday without speaking to reporters.
