Major League Baseball has assigned the four umpiring crews that will work the American League and National League Division Series, which are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 4. The four crew chiefs will be Gary Darling, Bruce Froemming, Ed Montague and Dale Scott.
Scott, a 22-year Major League Umpire, will oversee the crew working the National League Division Series between the Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, beginning on Wednesday. The rest of the crew will consist of Jim Reynolds, Chuck Meriwether, Jeff Kellogg, Derryl Cousins and Ed Hickox. This is Scott's eighth Division Series assignment and his 15th postseason series overall.
The NLDS between the Chicago Cubs and the Arizona Diamondbacks, which begins on Wednesday at Chase Field, will be officiated by Montague, the 32-year Major League Umpire. Montague will be joined by Sam Holbrook, Greg Gibson, Mike Everitt, regular season Crew Chief Mike Reilly and Mark Carlson. This marks Montague's seventh Division Series and his 20th postseason assignment overall.
Darling, a 21-year Major League Umpire, will be behind the plate when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim play the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in the American League Division Series on Wednesday. Darling's crew will include Dan Iassogna, Brian Runge, Ted Barrett, regular season crew chief Tim Tschida and CB Bucknor. This is Darling's seventh Division Series assignment and his 11th postseason series.
The crew working the ALDS between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians, beginning Thursday at Jacobs Field, will feature the active umpire with the longest period of consecutive years of service by any umpire in baseball history, 37-year veteran Bruce Froemming, who will be working his 24th postseason series (ninth DS). Laz Diaz, Ron Kulpa, Fieldin Culbreth, regular season crew chief Gerry Davis and Jim Wolf will comprise Froemming's crew.
Umpires for the League Championship Series and the 103rd World Series will be announced when assignments have been made.
