The Giants continued revamping their front-office staff Thursday, hiring noted baseball figure Ron Schueler as a senior advisor.
Joe Lefebvre, the Giants' hitting coach for the previous six seasons, also was named a senior advisor, along with Ed Creech. Matt Nerland, the club's scouting director from 1998-2006, rejoined the organization as a special assistant for scouting.
"It deepens our staff and certainly gives us more experience in more areas," Giants general manager Brian Sabean said.
Schueler won World Series rings as a scout with Oakland (1989) and St. Louis (2006). The former pitcher also was the general manager for the Chicago White Sox from 1991-2000, a span in which that club finished first or second place in its division eight times in 10 seasons.
Sabean said that Schueler will spend "90 percent" of his time assisting in Major League personnel decisions. Lefebvre, Sabean added, likely will divide his evaluation duties between Major and Minor Leaguers, while Creech, Pittsburgh's scouting director for the past six years, will focus on amateur talent. Nerland returned to the Giants after a one-year medical leave.
