The 26-year-old Aardsma was added to the Major League roster, leaving the Red Sox with one open spot on their 40-man roster.
Aardsma got off to a strong start for the White Sox in 2007, breaking camp with the team and going 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA with 26 strikeouts in his first 14 appearances. In fact, his 23 strikeouts in April led all American League relievers.
But his overall numbers (2-1, 6.40 ERA in 25 games) weren't as strong.
Aardsma spent the second half of the season at Triple-A Charlotte, going 3-2 with 4.33 ERA and 15 saves in 18 games.
He has pitched in 81 career Major League games for the Giants, Cubs and White Sox, posting a 6-1 record and a 5.16 ERA.
As for Mota, he went 5-3 with a 2.60 ERA with one save in 17 relief appearances at Class A Lowell in 2007, his first season as a pitcher after four years playing the outfield in the Red Sox organization.
Socolovich split the year between two Class A teams, going 2-2 with a 6.65 ERA in 11 games at Greenville and 5-4, 3.56 in 14 games (13 starts) at Lowell. He has been in the Boston system for four seasons.
