FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Left-hander Francisco Liriano is expected to arrive in Fort Myers on Wednesday. Liriano had been trying to work out his visa problems with the U.S. Consulate in the Dominican Republic. His visa application was flagged last week due to a previous DUI misdemeanor in March 2006 in Cape Coral, Fla.

As part of a memorandum passed by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last summer, visa applicants must be referred to panel physicians if they "have a single drunk driving arrest or conviction within the last three calendar years." The applicants must undergo a counseling session and also pass a sobriety test. Liriano passed his test.

"I obtained the visa, and I will go away tomorrow for training," Liriano told The Associated Press.

The 24-year-old missed the entire 2007 season due to Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery on his left arm but has been receiving good reports on his workouts. The Twins are optimistic he will catch up quickly after he gets to Florida.

"Still on for Wednesday," Gardenhire said when asked about Liriano's status.
