Mets salvage tie against Michigan

Michigan at the plate: Derek VanBuskirk, the Wolverines left fielder, hit a two-run home run against Ryan Cullen in the eighth inning to give Michigan a 4-2 lead. VanBuskirk, Adam Abraham, Leif Mahler, Jason Christian and Michael Dufek had two hits each. Mahler drove in a run in the third with a single against Aaron Heilman.
Mets on the mound: Starter Jason Vargas (two innings) and Heilman allowed the runs in the second and third innings. Billy Wagner, using his new windup -- albeit for one pitch -- pitched a scoreless fourth after allowing a leadoff double by VanBuskirk.
Michigan on the mound: Katzman pitched two innings and struck out Carlos Delgado and Ryan Church, the only left-handed hitters he faced. Dufek allowed three base runners and struck out three in 1 2/3 innings.
Up next: The Mets play the Tigers in their first Grapefruit League game Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET in Lakeland.
