Marlins at the plate: John Baker ended it with a walk-off single to center in the ninth inning. Paul Hoover reached on an error to open the inning and was sacrificed to second. Without a hit, the Marlins scored two unearned runs to tie it in the seventh inning. Jose Castillo walked and was pinch-run for by Lee Mitchell. John Baker walked and a run scored on David Freese's throwing error on Rex Rundgren's grounder. Chris Coghlan's RBI groundout tied it at 2. Dan Uggla singled in the first, and Alfredo Amezaga singled in the fifth, marking one of the club's two hits through eight innings.

Cardinals at the plate: Rick Ankiel went 2-for-2 with a walk. In a two-run second inning, Brendan Ryan netted a two-out RBI single and Adam Kennedy added an run-scoring infield single. Ryan added an infield single in the sixth inning.

Marlins on the mound: Prospect Dallas Trahern worked 1 2/3 innings and struggled with command, walking three. Of his 41 pitches thrown, 22 were strikes. Justin Miller worked 1 1/3 hitless innings, walking one. Kevin Gregg and Logan Kensing each worked perfect innings.

Cardinals on the mound: Todd Wellemeyer started and lasted 2 2/3 innings, compiling 49 pitches with 27 strikes. The right-hander did walk three and allow one hit, but he was never seriously threatened. In relief, Brad Thompson struck out three in 2 1/3 innings, giving up one hit.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 3-2, Cardinals 2-1.
