Looper solid, but Cards lose to Nats
St. Louis right-hander allows one run over three innings

Cardinals at the plate: In the seventh inning, Skip Schumaker drove in the team's first run with a single to left field off right-hander Tristan Crawford. Ryan Ludwick scored the second run in the same inning on a throwing error by Chad Moeller.
Nationals at the plate: In the third inning, Justin Maxwell scored the first run of the game when Felipe Lopez grounded into a force play. Two innings later, Elijah Dukes homered off Mitchell Boggs. Jorge Padilla scored the winning run in the sixth inning when Jason Dubois grounded out against right-hander Ryan Franklin.
Cardinals on the mound: Right-hander Braden Looper pitched three innings and gave up one run on three hits. Boggs pitched two innings and allowed a run.
Nationals on the mound: Right-hander Tim Redding pitched three shutout innings, while Jason Stanford held the Cardinals scoreless for two frames.
Grapefruit League records: Cardinals 2-3, Nationals 2-3-1.
Up next: The Nationals have day/night split-squad games against the Dodgers on Tuesday. The first game starts at 1:05 p.m. ET at Space Coast Stadium, while the second begins at 7:05 p.m. at Vero Beach.
Washington left-hander Matt Chico will face Los Angeles right-hander Esteban Loaiza in the first game. In the nightcap, Nationals righty Jason Bergmann will be on the mound against Dodgers right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
The Cardinals travel to Fort Lauderdale to play the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. ET. St. Louis right-hander Anthony Reyes will face Baltimore southpaw Adam Loewen.
