Hairston, Patterson make Reds debuts
Second baseman goes 0-for-1; center fielder collects one hit

Reds at the plate: Three walks in the third inning led to Cincinnati's opening run when Jerry Hairston's groundout drove in Norris Hopper. Hairston went 0-for-1 with a walk in his Reds debut, while Corey Patterson's first game as a Red was a 1-for-3 performance.
Tigers at the plate: Carlos Guillen's fourth home run of the spring, a two-run shot, opened the scoring in the second inning. Scott Sizemore added to it with a solo shot two batters later. Ivan Rodriguez slugged his fourth homer of the spring to the top of the left-field berm leading off the fifth. Brent Clevlen added a solo shot of his own in the eighth inning.
Reds on the mound: Starter Matt Maloney served up the two second-inning homers, the only damage he allowed in two innings of work. Jared Burton and Todd Coffey followed with scoreless innings of relief.
Tigers on the mound: Dontrelle Willis battled control problems in his third start of the spring, walking four batters before reaching his pitch count with one out in the third inning. He gave up two hits and struck out three. Jason Grilli escaped the jam with one inherited run allowed and finished with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Grapefruit League records: Reds 8-7, Tigers 9-5-1
Up next: The Reds head to Clearwater, Fla., to face the Phillies on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Bronson Arroyo, who had his previous start rained out, will pitch for Cincinnati against Ryan Madson. Rotation candidate Johnny Cueto is scheduled to pitch, and Bill Bray will make his debut after battling a sore left shoulder all spring.
