Rays at the plate: Carlos Pena drilled a two-run homer to cap a five-run fifth inning against John Smoltz. Reid Brignac had a two-run double earlier in the inning.

Braves at the plate: Martin Prado's RBI double and Gregor Blanco's two-run single highlighted a three-run seventh inning. The Braves then scored seven in the eighth inning, including a grand slam from catcher Corky Miller. Brian McCann and Jeff Francoeur both had a pair of singles.

Rays on the mound: Starter Jason Hammel, who surrendered nine earned runs and nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings against the Indians on Monday, limited the Braves to three hits in five scoreless innings.

Braves on the mound: Making his Grapefruit League debut, Smoltz held the Rays scoreless for the first four innings and then struggled during a five-run fifth inning. Also making his exhibition season debut, closer Rafael Soriano surrendered two singles in a scoreless sixth inning.

Grapefruit League records: Rays 12-3-1; Braves 10-7-2.
