Rays place Kazmir, Zobrist on DL
Ace, shortstop will be eligible for game action on April 5
DUNEDIN, Fla. -- The Rays made a pair of anticipated roster moves on Tuesday, placing both left-hander Scott Kazmir and infielder Ben Zobrist on the 15-day disabled list.
The DL stints for both players are retroactive to March 21, making April 5 the earliest date that either Kazmir or Zobrist would be eligible to return. Tampa Bay is also expected to place outfielder Rocco Baldelli on the DL before the season begins.
Kazmir, who led the American League with 239 strikeouts last season, suffered a left elbow strain in an intrasquad game on Feb. 25. Zobrist fractured his left thumb on March 9, and X-Rays taken on Monday confirmed that his hand would not be healed enough to allow him to break camp with the club.
