The Commissioner's office informed the Royals shortly before noon CT on Wednesday that the stay of Guillen's suspension has been extended through next Tuesday.
General manager Dayton Moore was told the extension was through April 15 while negotiations continued on a joint drug agreement.
"I'm not real concerned about it, I don't have any control over it and the fact that they're lengthening it obviously is a positive sign," Moore said. "I don't think they'd lengthen it if they didn't feel like ultimately there was going to be some resolve."
Guillen's suspension of 15 days for violation of drug policies was to begin on March 30, but he got a stay of 10 days while Major League Baseball and the Players' Association negotiated a new agreement. The 10 days expired with the home opener on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium.
Manager Trey Hillman was pleased by the extension.
"No doubt about it," he said. "I'll still be happy when it's entirely resolved. But I can't control it, so we'll try to be as happy as we can with what we have right now."
