WASHINGTON -- Nationals closer Chad Cordero pitched in his second rehab assignment for Class A Potomac on Friday night. He threw one shutout inning, striking out a batter in a 12-5 victory over Kinston.

"I threw seven pitches," Cordero said. "I would have liked to throw a little bit more. Everything went fine. My arm felt good. I was able to throw my slider and changeup for strikes."

Cordero is hoping to be activated from the disabled list by Saturday or Sunday. He hasn't pitched in a regular-season game because of right shoulder tendinitis.

He was given a cortisone shot on March 30 and the shoulder has felt better since. Cordero has played catch and has thrown several bullpen sessions.
