ST. LOUIS -- Russ Springer turned loose his full repertoire of pitches Saturday morning and then affirmed that he's ready to help bolster the Cardinals' bullpen.
"Everything felt good," Springer said. "All of my pitches felt sharp and I feel like I'm ready to go. Totally normal."
Springer, who has been sidelined with nerve inflammation in his right elbow, faced hitters Cesar Izturis, Brian Barton and Jason LaRue. After the simulated session, he received a round of high-fives.
"If they want me to face more hitters, I'll do that," Springer said. "Whether it's in [Double-A] Springfield or another simulated game."
Manager Tony La Russa is going with the latter option. La Russa said after Saturday's loss to the Giants that Springer will accompany the Cardinals on their next road trip starting in Milwaukee so he can get more simulated work.
"Probably Monday," La Russa said when asked about the timetable for Springer's next simulated test.
Springer hasn't pitched since April 4, when he allowed three hits and three runs against Washington. The Cardinals bullpen went into Saturday's game against the Giants with a collective 3.31 ERA in 49 innings.
