Funeral mass to be held for Marzano
Former Major Leaguer to be laid to rest in Philadelphia
A funeral mass will be held on Friday at Annunciation BVM Church, at South 10th and Dickinson Streets in Philadelphia, for former Major League catcher and MLB.com on-air personality John Marzano.
Marzano, 45, was found dead at his Philadelphia home after falling down a flight of stairs, possibly after suffering a heart attack. A former Central High and Temple University star, "Johnny Marz" was popular in the area as a player, and later as a television personality. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. ET and Friday from 8:15-9:15 a.m. at Baldi/Pennsylvania Funeral Home, at Broad and Reed Streets. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. on Friday, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon. Donations may be made to a fund at PNC Bank, set up for Marzano's two grandchildren. Arrangements are pending. Marzano played for 10 seasons with Boston, Texas and Seattle, then worked for WIP-AM (610) and Comcast SportsNet. He joined MLB.com in 2007.Ken Mandel is a reporter for MLB.com.
