NEW YORK -- Rafael Soriano's first opportunity to truly test his right elbow included some discomfort, but the Braves' closer still plans to throw another side session later this week with the hope of soon ending his stint on the disabled list.

After watching Soriano complete his side session on Sunday, Braves manager Bobby Cox said that the right-handed reliever threw well, but also felt some discomfort in his right elbow. The discomfort didn't seem to be enough to provide increased concern.

Cox said that Soriano will likely throw at least two more side sessions this week before the Braves would even consider activating him from the disabled list. The 28-year-old reliever's side session on Sunday marked the first time he'd been on a mound since notching a save against the Mets on April 6.

Soriano was bothered by some elbow discomfort during the early weeks of Spring Training and didn't make his Grapefruit League debut until March 15.
