ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are placing third baseman Hank Blalock on the disabled list and are expected to call up outfielder Brandon Boggs from Triple-A Oklahoma on Tuesday.

Blalock is expected to miss three to four weeks with a small tear in his left hamstring muscle. Blalock, who was hitting .299 with two home runs and seven RBIs, injured himself running out a double in the 10th inning of Friday's 6-5 victory over the Twins.

"Tough to replace his bat right now, but it's an opportunity for someone else to make an impact," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "He was having consistent ABs."

Utility infielder Ramon Vazquez has started at third base the last two games, but the Rangers are also going to take a look at rookie third baseman German Duran.

Travis Metcalf filled in at times for Blalock last year when he was sidelined because of shoulder surgery. But Metcalf had surgery on his hamstring in Spring Training and is still going through rehabilitation in Surprise, Ariz.

"Ramon is capable of filling in over there, and it's a chance for us to look at Duran," Daniels said. "Metcalf is rehabbing his leg in Arizona -- still probably a week or two away from being an option over there."

Duran, a right-handed hitter, had made two starts in the outfield since Marlon Byrd went on the disabled list with a strained knee. That role will likely go to Boggs, who is hitting .306 at Triple-A. Boggs is on the 40-man roster.
