PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin knows what a fight Orlando Hudson can put up when he tries to take the second baseman out of games or gives him a day off.

So when Hudson limped into second base on Friday night after legging out a double and immediately called time and signaled to the dugout for help, Melvin thought the worst.

"It takes quite a bit for him to come out of a game, and for him to call me out there, it was a bit of a concern," Melvin said.

One day later, Hudson was out of the starting lineup against the Mets as expected, but the injury to his right hamstring is not believed to be serious.

"It's just tight really not even a strain, so there's a decent chance he could play [Sunday]," Melvin said. "If not, I would be very encouraged about Monday."

One reason he can be so optimistic is that Hudson didn't push things on Friday when he felt the hamstring tighten.

"He was just being smart," Melvin said. "It was tight, and he didn't want to jeopardize pulling a hamstring, which, in turn, could have him out for a while."
