This season, Gonzalez, just 26, is off to another fast start and is even on pace to hit more home runs in 2008 than he did last season.
Gonzalez, who might well be one of the most underrated players in the game, is among eight Padres who are on the ballot for the 79th All-Star Game, which will be held on July 15 at Yankee Stadium.
The 79th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, being held at Yankee Stadium in its final season, will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD, and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

The Midsummer Classic will be the fourth held at Yankee Stadium and the eighth in New York City. The Yankees previously hosted the All-Star Game in 1939, 1960 and 1977; the Polo Grounds held the game in 1934 and 1942; Ebbets Field was the site in 1949; and Shea Stadium hosted the 1964 tilt.
The left-handed-hitting Gonzalez has shown power to all fields this season, hitting eight of his 15 home runs to left or center field.
"It's a great sign for any hitter to be able to hit to all fields with power," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I think that he is a gifted hitter who can do a lot of things with the ball. It doesn't surprise me that he has power that shows up to all fields."
Aside from Gonzalez, the other Padres on the ballot for the All-Star Game are outfielders Scott Hairston and Brian Giles, second baseman Tadahito Iguchi, third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff, shortstop Khalil Greene and catcher Josh Bard.
Last season, the Padres had three representatives in the All-Star Game in San Francisco: starting pitchers Jake Peavy -- who started the game and would go on to win the Cy Young Award -- and Chris Young and closer Trevor Hoffman.
