Punto won't rejoin Twins in Kansas City
Infielder could come off disabled list on Saturday at earliest
KANSAS CITY -- Infielder Nick Punto won't rejoin the Twins until Saturday at the earliest. There had been some discussion this past weekend of Punto returning to the team in Kansas City, but the Twins have decided to keep Punto in Florida to finish his rehab stint. Punto, who is currently on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, has not suffered any setbacks, according to manager Ron Gardenhire. The infielder has currently tallied 19 at-bats in simulated games and extended spring action. He had no problems to report after a game on Tuesday. Punto is scheduled to play in another seven-inning game on Wednesday. "He's fine," Gardenhire said. "His legs feel great and his arm feels good. He swung the bat really good today." One thing complicating Punto's current schedule is that his wife, Natalie, is due to give birth to their first child on Friday. Gardenhire said the plan now is to have Punto fly back to Minnesota on Thursday night to be present for the birth, so Saturday would be the earliest that Punto could be activated from the DL.
