Tribe to designate Julio for assignment
Roster spot needed to activate starter Westbrook from DL
CLEVELAND -- Just a few days after praising Jorge Julio as one of the best arms in the bullpen, manager Eric Wedge announced the Indians are designating the veteran for assignment.Julio will be designated Wednesday morning, when the Indians activate right-hander Jake Westbrook from the 15-day disabled list. In 15 appearances for the Tribe, Julio compiled a 5.60 ERA. He walked 11 and struck out 15 in 17 2/3 innings of work. The 29-year-old Julio had really struggled of late, giving up nine earned runs over his last 10 2/3 innings. Wedge had been asked Saturday, when Jensen Lewis was optioned to Buffalo, why Julio had survived the bullpen cut. "With the uncertainty of our bullpen right now," Wedge had said, "the last thing you want to do is get rid of one of your best arms." But with another roster move necessary Wednesday, that line of thinking has changed. "We liked his arm," Wedge said Tuesday. "He had success early for us, but we felt this was the move to make as we move forward."
