HOUSTON -- The Brewers granted right-hander Jeff Weaver his unconditional release from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, a day after the veteran's latest disappointing start.
Weaver went 2-4 with a 6.22 ERA in nine starts for Nashville after signing a Minor League contract with Milwaukee in April. He had pitched well in his two outings previous to Wednesday, when he allowed eight runs on 11 hits over six innings in a loss to Oklahoma. He walked four batters and struck out four.
Weaver's contract included an "out" clause that let him elect free agency if he was not in the Major Leagues by June 15. Milwaukee's starting rotation has stabilized since right-hander Seth McClung moved from the bullpen.
Including Ben Sheets' seven-inning outing on Thursday, Brewers pitchers have turned in quality starts of six or more innings with three or fewer earned runs in 12 of the last 16 games.
