ST. PETERSBURG -- Matt Garza will make his first appearance since his highly publicized start Sunday in Texas.

Last time out, Garza and catcher Dioner Navarro got into a spat on the mound that carried over into the dugout.

The Rays have maintained a stance that what happened was a family matter and, as such, needed to remain in-house.

Rays manager Joe Maddon was asked about Garza's start against the Marlins on Saturday, and he made it sound like just another day at the office.

"It's just another start for Garza," Maddon said. "I'm looking forward to a really good performance tomorrow, I believe."

If Navarro does not catch Saturday night, it will be a surprise. The pair has made up and could even be seen sitting beside one another and joking around inside the visiting clubhouse at Angel Stadium. Navarro went so far as to say of Garza, "Matty's my boy."

While the Rays have indeed kept the matter in-house for the most part, Garza said he learned from the experience.

"Not so much physically, but mentally," Garza said. "I worried about too much stuff. I need to just worry about the pitch I'm making. And as soon as the ball leaves my hand, [I need to] worry about the next pitch. Because once it leaves my hand, it's out of my control what happens to it. ... I feel a lot better, and I'm ready to go."

Garza has been tough to beat inside Tropicana Field, where he is 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA in five starts this season.

Tampa Bay will face former Rays left-hander Mark Hendrickson, who is 14-17 with a 4.94 ERA in 44 career appearances at Tropicana Field.

Pitching matchup
TB: RHP Matt Garza (4-3, 4.38 ERA)
Right-handers (.286) are hitting for a higher average against Garza than lefties (.223) this season.

FLA: LHP Mark Hendrickson (7-4, 5.76 ERA)
Right-handed hitters are hitting .300 against Hendrickson this season.

Tidbits
With Carl Crawford out and a left-hander starting for the Marlins, Maddon said Justin Ruggiano will likely start in left field with Jonny Gomes at designated hitter. ... The Rays have signed 11 more selections from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, bringing their total to 17, including 15 of their first 26. The 11 are: 1B Michael Sheridan, William & Mary (fifth round); RHP Shane Dyer, South Mountain (AZ) Community College (sixth round); SS Matthew Hall, Auburn University (10th round); OF Michael McKenna, Florida Atlantic University (14th round); Matthew Gorgen, University of California-Berkeley (16th round); 2B Jeremy Beckham, Georgia Southern University (17th round); C David Genao, Oral Roberts University (18th round); Jason Tweedy, Long Beach University (20th round); LHP Neil Schenk, University of Memphis (23rd round); Joshua Satow, Arizona State University (25th round); RHP Matthew Long, Cal State San Bernandino (34th round). ... The Rays' "Summer Saturday Night Concert Series" continues Saturday night with Grammy-winning artist Gilberto Santa Rosa performing after the game. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Rays tambourine.
