Since then, though, any concerns of a lingering injury have been far removed, as Ryan has returned to his former self.
Over the season's first two months, Ryan was a perfect 12-for-12 in save opportunities with a 0.53 ERA. Then he suffered that blip, going 0-3 with an ERA of 13.50 during the five-game stretch.
Since suffering his last loss, though, Ryan has been dominant again, allowing no runs over seven games, while collecting three saves.
"His fastball has got more life to it," Jays cacther Rod Barajas said. "It's finishing. What I mean by that is the last 10 feet [to home plate], it seems that it picks up speed."
According to Barajas, that has particularly helped Ryan against right-handed hitters.
"They end up being late, because that last 10 feet, it seems like it picks us a couple miles per hour," Barajas said.
"It may not show on the scoreboard, velocity-wise, but it seems that he's got a little bit more to him."
