MIL: LHP Manny Parra (8-2, 3.95 ERA)
Parra halted Minnesota's 10-game winning streak in his last start. He went seven innings of shutout ball while allowing only two hits and recording six strikeouts in the Brewers' 5-1 victory at the Metrodome. On June 4 against the D-backs, Parra went seven innings and only allowed one earned run while striking out eight. ARI: RHP Brandon Webb (12-4, 3.21 ERA)
Webb lost his first game of the season against the Marlins, after nine victories, but got a measure of revenge in his last start. It wasn't easy, as Webb lasted only six-plus innings and left with two on and no out in the seventh. But Webb showed flashes of his early-season form in the victory. He struck out eight and was particularly effective once Florida got runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings -- he left four of those runners stranded. What may have helped Webb as much as anything is that he received a nice jolt of run support. A five-run sixth inning put the game away for Arizona. Tidbits
Wednesday's comeback win ensured at least a .500 road trip for the Brewers, who are at the end of a three-city, 10-game trip. ... Shortstop J.J. Hardy hit an RBI single in the sixth inning on Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest run by a Brewer this season. ... Right-hander Mark DiFelice allowed one run on three hits over five innings on Wednesday in his first start for Triple-A Nashville since the Brewers sent him down last week to clear a spot for Eric Gagne. ... How popular is former D-back Craig Counsell in Arizona? As Brewers scouts were preparing for the First-Year Player Draft last month at Milwaukee's downtown Hilton Hotel, Republican presidential candidate John McCain happened to drop in. Some of the scouts asked about the campaign, but, "all John McCain wanted to talk about was Craig Counsell," Yost said with a chuckle. Counsell, the 2001 NLCS MVP for Arizona, started at second base for the Brewers on Wednesday and drew a nice ovation when he led off the game. Tickets
