ARLINGTON -- Outfielder Marlon Byrd left Friday's game with the Red Sox after just one inning with a sprained left thumb.

Byrd injured the thumb trying to make a diving catch on Dustin Pedroia's line-drive double. X-rays taken were negative and Byrd is day-to-day.
