Kapler started in place of slumping right fielder Corey Hart and was 1-for-2 at the plate. He caught a lineout for the first out of the sixth inning and threw home to freeze a Reds runner at third base, then called for head athletic trainer Roger Caplinger.
After coming out of retirement to sign with the Brewers, Kapler is hitting .301 in 96 games this season. He was briefly sidelined earlier this season after bruising his right shoulder trying to make a leaping catch at the wall during batting practice at Busch Stadium.Adam McCalvy is a reporter for MLB.com.
