Bruce exits after fifth against Brewers
Rookie slugger replaced after being hit by pitch in fourth
CINCINNATI -- Center fielder Jay Bruce left the Reds-Brewers game after the fifth inning Saturday.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, he was hit on the right hand by a pitch from Brewers left-hander CC Sabathia. Bruce left in the sixth for X-rays, which a team spokesman said were negative.
Bruce, a rookie who's considered one of the key pieces in the Reds' future, remained in the ballgame for the fifth inning before being replaced by Corey Patterson in the sixth.
He entered the game with a .260 average, 21 homers and 52 RBIs.
