Depaoli hired as marketing director
Veteran executive previously worked for Florida Marlins
SAN DIEGO -- The Pirates announced on Friday that Lou Depaoli has been hired by the organization as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Depaoli will oversee the organization's marketing, ticket sales and corporate sales.
Depaoli comes to Pittsburgh after serving as the marketing officer for the Atlanta Spirit, where he oversaw the marketing department for both the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers. Though most of his sports marketing experience has been with the NBA, Depaoli also worked in the Florida Marlins' ticket sales and marketing departments from 1996-2000.
Depaoli will step into the Pirates' marketing director role that hadn't been officially filled since former director Tim Schuldt left the organization in 2006. Schuldt developed the "We Will" marketing slogan, which was replaced by "Let's Go Bucs" this season.
"With his diverse background, vast experience in professional sports and passion for baseball, Lou will help the Pirates become the benchmark of innovation and excellence in our business functions," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement. "Lou has a broad background in all aspects of the business of a professional sports organization and has a proven track record of success at both the club and league level."
