Heath Phillips and three relievers combined on a no-hitter as the Caneros de los Mochis blanked the visiting Algodoneros de Guasave, 2-0, on Monday.

Phillips (1-0) struck out two and walked five over five innings for his first Mexican Pacific League win. The Tampa Bay left-hander induced eight ground balls and five flyouts before handing the game over to his bullpen.

Angels farmhand Francisco Rodriguez tossed two scoreless innings, and Adrian Manzano and Jorge Vasquez each worked a perfect frame to close out the no-no.

The no-hitter, however, wasn't a reality when the final out was made. Guasave's Mario Valenzuela grounded a single to third baseman Jeff Nettles (Orioles) with two outs in the second, but the play was later scored an error after the game by the official scorer.

Phillips, a 25-year-old lefty, split the summer between the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and the Durham Bulls. The Illinois native finished 4-5 with a 4.75 ERA in 44 combined appearances, including seven starts. He was originally the White Sox's 10th-round pick in 2000 and was named the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher during his 2006 All-Star campaign.

The Lake City Community College product was 1-1 in six appearances for the White Sox in 2007.

Rodriguez went 5-5 with a 3.82 ERA in 50 games for the Double-A Arkansas Travelers this season. The Mexican right-hander struck out four over two perfect frames.

Manzano and Vasquez each spent the 2008 season in Mexico. Vasquez most recently reached Triple-A with Oklahoma in 2007.

Mochis took the lead in the third when Carlos Orrantia hit a solo homer to left and Ramon Orantes followed with a single to center to plate Yankees outfielder Justin Christian for a 2-0 lead. Orantes had two of the game's five hits.

Former Dodgers prospect Spike Lundberg (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks over four innings to suffer his first loss. Lundberg, the Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher in 2006, spent the entire 2008 season in the Mexican League with Quintana Roo.

Obregon 20, Navojoa 1
Said Gutierrez led a power surge with three homers, including a grand slam, and six RBIs as the Yaquis clobbered the Mayos for their first victory. Josh Pressley went 3-for-5 with a blast, three RBIs and three runs scored. Rangers prospect Zack Parker picked up the win with two strikeouts in five scoreless innings for Obregon. Braves farmhand Reid Gorecki cranked a solo shot for Navajoa's lone run. Box score
