PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks reliever Juan Cruz and infielder David Eckstein were among the 65 players to file for free agency on Thursday, the first day in which players were able to do so.

The free-agent filing period runs through Nov. 13. During that time, free agents are allowed to speak with other clubs, but only the club they played for last year can discuss salary figures with them.

Other D-backs players eligible to file for free agency before Nov. 13 include first baseman Tony Clark, outfielder Adam Dunn, second baseman Orlando Hudson, left-handed pitcher Randy Johnson and right-hander Brandon Lyon.

Cruz, 30, has been with the D-backs since 2006, when he was acquired from the A's in a Spring Training deal for Brad Halsey. The right-hander appeared in 141 games in his three seasons in Arizona, including 15 as a starter in '06. This past season, he was 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 57 games.

Eckstein, who will turn 34 in January, was acquired from the Blue Jays on Aug. 31 in exchange for right-hander Chad Beck. Eckstein played second base in place of the injured Hudson and batted .219 in 18 games.
