Gindl helps CaneFires thump Sharks
Brewers prospect doubles twice, knocks in three runs
Brewers prospect Caleb Gindl whacked two doubles and knocked in three runs during the West Oahu CaneFires' 13-5 rout of the Honolulu Sharks.
Gindl doubled home Gregory Burns (Marlins) in the first inning and his sixth-inning two-bagger knocked in Burns and Mark Hallberg (Diamondbacks). It was his third consecutive multi-hit game.
Gindl, who also scored once, batted .307 with 13 homers, 86 runs scored and 81 RBIs for the West Virginia Power in the South Atlantic League this season. He amassed 28 doubles, second in the league to Darin Holcomb of the Asheville Tourists.
Hallberg collected two hits, walked twice and crossed the plate three times. Cyle Hankerd (Diamondbacks) and Chris Hatcher (Marlins) contributed three RBIs apiece for West Oahu (14-14).
Brewers' right-hander Cody Scarpetta (1-2) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks, striking out five, over four innings pitched for the win.
Sharks first baseman Kala Ka'aihue (Braves) cranked his fourth home run of the season and had four RBIs for Honolulu (14-14). Ka'aihue also singled, walked and had a sacrifice fly.
Dominic Brown (Phillies) and Tony Cruz (Cardinals) both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Brown scored twice and Cruz once.
Rockies prospect Connor Graham (1-1) surrendered seven runs on two hits and six walks, fanning three in 2 2/3 innings for the loss.
