NEW YORK -- Mets outfielder/first baseman Nick Evans will soon begin three to four weeks of therapy and rehabilitation now that doctors have confirmed he suffered nothing more than a mild strain of his right quadriceps last month while playing in the Puerto Rican Winter League.

Evans, who made his big league debut in 2008, was examined in Manhattan on Monday. He had been playing for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rico. He last played on Nov. 19, batting .094 with one extra-base hit in 32 at-bats at the time of his injury.

Evans, 22, appeared in 50 games with the Mets, batting .257 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 109 at-bats and playing almost exclusively in left field. His 2008 stint with Double-A Binghamton included a .311 batting average, 14 home runs and 53 RBIs in 296 at-bats.
