CHICAGO -- The brother of Cubs catcher Henry Blanco was reportedly found shot to death on Monday night in Venezuela.

The body of Carlos Simon Blanco Sanchez was discovered in Monpote, in the state of Miranda. Local police were treating the case as a kidnapping/murder, as the victim was reported kidnapped sometime after 6 p.m. local time Sunday.

According to the newspaper El Universal in Venezuela, Carlos Blanco, 39, was being held for a ransom reported at 200 million Venezuelan Bolivares. Henry Blanco had been in negotiations with the kidnappers.

Henry Blanco, an 11-year big league veteran, has spent the past four seasons as a backup catcher for the Cubs, and he is currently playing for the Margarita Bravos in the Venezuelan Winter League.

Cubs officials Tuesday had not received word of the incident.
