MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers have promoted roving pitching coordinator Jim Rooney to the position of roving crosschecker in the team's amateur scouting department and have hired two new scouts, the organization announced Tuesday.
Rooney joined the Brewers in 2004 and oversaw the progress and development of each pitcher in the team's Minor League system in his previous role. Prior to joining the Brewers, he worked in the Toronto Blue Jays organization from 2000-03 as a special assignment scout and Minor League pitching coach.
"Jim brings a special expertise to the position," amateur scouting director Bruce Seid said in the club's statement. "From his experience as a free agent scout in Toronto and in his role as pitching coordinator over the last five years, he adds a good combination of skills to this role."
Rooney was a former first-round Draft pick of the Orioles in 1981, but his career was derailed after five Minor League seasons by a major arm injury.
The Brewers also named Jeremy Booth as an area supervisor in Southeast Texas and Louisiana and Tim Collinsworth as an area supervisor responsible for Western Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Northern Texas.
Booth served as an area scout in the Midwest for the Minnesota Twins last season. He replaces Brian Sankey, who will scout in the country's Northeast region.
Collinsworth served as a part-time scout with Boston in 2008 and with Atlanta from 2004-07.
