Athletics prospect Jesus Guzman hit a three-run homer and Nationals infielder/outfielder Jose Castillo added a two-run shot as the Leones squared their postseason mark at 2-2. Pinch-hitter Jackson Melian's RBI bloop single snapped an eighth-inning tie and Guzman added his second playoff blast two batters later.

Diamondbacks prospect Gerardo Parra went 3-for-4 and fell a triple shy of the cycle for the Aguilas (2-2). Box score

La Guaira 9, Lara 0
Major League veteran Stephen Randolph scattered five hits over seven shutout innings as the Tiburones blanked the Cardenales in round-robin play. Willie Romero went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Orioles farmhand Oscar Salazar also drove in three runs to help La Guaira improve to 2-2.

Mazatlan 6, Obregon 5
Angels prospect Freddy Sandoval hit a go-ahead three-run homer to cap a six-run eighth inning as the Venados won the best-of-7 first-round series, 4-1. Ruben Rivera went 3-for-4 and fellow former Major Leaguer Miguel Ojeda hit a solo shot for Mazatlan.

Former Braves farmhand Iker Franco and Carlos Valencia homered for the Yaquis. Box score

Big league veteran Kevin Thompson singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Aguilas staved off elimination in their first-round series. Alfredo Caudillo allowed one run on one hit over 5 1/3 innings and Indians outfield prospect Roman Pena hit a solo homer for Mexicali.

Ramon Orantes hit a three-run homer and Brewers Minor Leaguer Jason Bourgeois singled, doubled and scored twice for the Caneros. Box score

Guasave 7, Hermosillo 2
Francisco Mendez hit a three-run homer and Cristhian Presichi singled twice and scored twice as the Algodoneros stayed alive in their first-round series. Wilton Chavez pitched six innings and combined with two relievers on a seven-hitter for Guasave, which trails, 3-2.

Former Major Leaguer Karim Garcia chipped in two hits, including a solo homer, for Hermosillo. Box score
