A Cubs official said Friday the team will announce its non-roster invitees next week.
According to ESPN.com, Taguchi will earn $900,000 if he makes the team in Spring Training. A career .279 hitter, Taguchi was a backup outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies last season and batted .220 with three stolen bases in 91 at-bats. He was 3-for-33 as a pinch-hitter.
Taguchi does know the Cubs, having faced them while playing six seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals. He has a career .266 average at Wrigley Field and a .280 average against the Cubs.
