Mets right-hander Nelson Figueroa (Mets) didn't surrender a hit over nine innings for the Cardenales. He fanned 10 and allowed a hit and a walk over nine-plus frames en route to the victory.
Entering the 10th inning with a 1-0 lead, Figueroa gave up a single to center field to Zulia's Alberto Callaspo (Royals).
The right-hander went 4-7 with a 4.43 ERA and struck out 97 in 20 appearances with Triple-A New Orleans and was 3-3 with a 4.57 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 16 appearances with the Mets during the 2008 campaign.
Major League free agent Juan Rincon replaced Figueroa after Callaspo's hit and earned the save.
Tomas Perez (Astros) doubled home Cesar Izturis (Orioles) for Lara's lone run.

White Sox prospect Victor Mercedes hit a two-run homer and former Major Leaguer Eddy Garabito added a solo shot as the Azucareros forged a second-place tie in the round-robin playoffs. They will face the Gigantes (11-7) in a one-game showdown Monday, with the winner taking on Licey in the Championship Series.

Orioles prospect Miguel Abreu scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Leones won Game 1 of the best-of-7 Championship Series. Fourteen-time All-Star Ivan Rodriguez doubled and scored the other run for Ponce, while Fernando Cabrera tossed two scoreless innings for the victory.

Major League veteran Miguel Ojeda slugged a two-run homer and Padres infielder Edgar Gonzalez also had two RBIs as the Venados forced a decisive Game 7 in their semifinal series.

Karim Garcia homered twice and fellow former Major Leaguers Vinny Castilla and Humberto Cota also hit solo shots as the Naranjeros evened their best-of-7 semifinal series at 3-3. Garcia, Castilla and Cota hit consecutive blasts in the first inning to take Hermosillo to a 3-0 lead.
