Bobbleheads big in Giants promotions
Special events include reunion of 1989 World Series team
SAN FRANCISCO -- Three bobblehead giveaways, with Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum's likeness leading the way, highlight the Giants' promotional schedule for the 2009 season.The lineup features more than 35 giveaways and special events, including bobblehead days featuring Lincecum (May 17 against the Mets), fellow National League All-Star Brian Wilson (July 12 against San Diego) and broadcaster Jon Miller (Aug. 7 against Cincinnati). Another notable event will be the 20th anniversary reunion of the 1989 National League championship squad, courtesy of Diamond Foods. The club will be honored before a June 13 Interleague game against the A's, who defeated San Francisco in that year's World Series. Among the Giants invited to attend the festivities are Jeff Brantley, Will Clark, Dave Dravecky, Scott Garrelts, Craig Lefferts, Candy Maldonado, Kirt Manwaring, Kevin Mitchell, Ken Oberkfell, Chris Speier, Rick Reuschel, Robby Thompson, Matt Williams and manager Roger Craig. The Giants will stage not one but two Fan Appreciation Days, the first coming on April 9 as they conclude their season-opening home series against Milwaukee and the next on Sept. 27 against the Cubs, the final Sunday home date of the year. Fans age 14 and under will be treated to four kids-only giveaways: Bank of America kids bat and ball set (April 19 against Arizona), vitaminwater10/Giants Build-A-Bear (May 30 against Atlanta), Dasani/Walgreens kids batting practice jersey (July 11 against San Diego) and a catcher's-style backpack (Sept. 12 against the Dodgers). Other promotions will revolve around "greening" efforts and Earth Day. On April 22, the first 20,000 fans through the gates for that afternoon's game against San Diego will receive a fabric reusable grocery bag. May 3 will be PG&E Solar Day, highlighting AT&T Park's energy-efficient practices and how fans can apply them at home. Annual events returning to the promotional schedule include On-Field Photo Day (May 2 against Colorado), Junior Giants Glove Drive presented by Bank of America (May 16 against the Mets), a BBQ apron giveaway (May 25 against St. Louis), Until There's A Cure Night presented by Esurance, Gilead and the Giants Community Fund (June 12 against Oakland), Fireworks Nights (AT&T Opening Night Fireworks on April 8 against Milwaukee and on July 3 against Houston), T-Shirt Day (July 5 against Houston), the Dog Days Parade (Aug. 1 against Philadelphia), the AT&T/Giants Slumber Party (Aug. 12 after the Dodgers game) and the Project Open Hand/Giants Plate to Plate 5K presented by AT&T (Aug. 30 against Colorado). Also, miniature U.S. flags will be distributed before the July 4 game against Houston. Individual game tickets go on sale Saturday at sfgiants.com and at the KNBR 680/Giants FanFest at AT&T Park, beginning at 9 a.m. PT at the Willie Mays Plaza ticket windows. Also, Visa cardholders have the exclusive opportunity to purchase single-game tickets Friday from 10 a.m. to midnight PT by visiting sfgiants.com/visa. Individual game tickets, season tickets, Spring Training tickets, group tickets and "6-Packs," including a special KNBR 6-Pack (FanFest offer only), will be available for purchase at sfgiants.com, inside the FanFest, at Tickets.com ticket outlets in Northern California and at Giants Dugout Stores.
