ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are "considering" signing free-agent outfielder Andruw Jones, general manager Jon Daniels said Saturday.

A deal is not yet done. Jones recently worked out with hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo and the Rangers are considering him as a "reclamation" project, even with a crowded outfield.

Right now, the Rangers have David Murphy in left field, Josh Hamilton in center and Nelson Cruz in right. Marlon Byrd can play all three positions, and Frank Catalanotto and Brandon Boggs also remain on the roster.

Jones was recently released from the second year of a $36.2 million contract by the Dodgers after he hit .158 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 75 games and 209 at-bats.

He is a five-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner, but his game has been in steady decline over the past three years. He had trouble in both of his knees last season and his weight has been a concern.
